Physical vs. eBooks
I’ve become more and more disenchanted with ebooks these days.
I know, I’ve posted about this before. But bear with me because my brain has been buzzing about it lately.
On the one hand, I like having a book with me wherever I go. On the other hand, I hate that I don’t actually own those books. And yeah, I know I could go through the effort of getting Calibre and removing the DRM and getting a Kobo and blah. It’s just too much effort for the 20-30 books that I already have physical copies of.
So I decided that I’m done buying/reading ebooks for now. If I want to read a book, I either get it from the library, borrow it from a friend, or buy the physical book.

There’s no question of ownership when I hand over cash for my book. No worry of my books disappearing, or getting covertly edited or revised without my knowing. No fear of not being able to resell my book and get a little money for it when I decide I’m done with it.
I feel so much more at ease with my collection knowing that I’m focusing on physical books. I like having picked a direction instead of waffling back and forth between the two.
I’ve trimmed down my wish list and only have books I actually want to own on it. Anything I’m mildly curious about but not sure if I’d like, I toss on my library holds list.
Right now I have The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet, All Systems Red, Operation Bounce House, and I Who Have Never Known Men on hold for me at the library. If I decide that I really like them, I’ll put them on my wish list to buy some other time.
As for buying, I really want a hardcover copy of Recursion (this book was fantastic), Yesteryear, and Old Man’s War. I also have a fancy, expensive copy of Words of Radiance on my wish list but I’m gonna have to save for that one.
I’m just over the subscription model and have actively been backpedaling for about six months.
